Téma: Combining electrotechnics and informatics

Dear Pavel

You are right that both electrotechnics and informatics are slightly awkward words in English. Informatics has become more widely accepted as a term in the last 10 years than it was before that. Electrotechnics too. I think engineers find both words useful and acceptable nowadays. And I think there is probably no suitable replacement for either word.

So, my choice narrows down to two:

We combine Electrotechnics and Informatics
Combining Electrotechnics and Informatics
I think I like best:   Combining Electrotechnics and Informatics

Dear Robin
as the Faculty of Electrical Engineering we set our new motto as
“Spojujeme elektrotechniku a informatiku”

Please advice on the English version.

We combine Electrotechnics and Informatics
Combining Electrotechnics and Informatics
We join Electrotechnics and Informatics
Joining Electrotechnics with Informatics
We amalgamate Electrotechnics and Informatics
?
We want to express, that the combination does already exist, we do not
create it.
It is not connection of two separate fields, these two fields are really
amalgated
Electrotechnics sounds strange for me, but it is comon term which
appears also in dictionaries. The same for Informatics.
Combining Electrical Engineering with Informatics
or is probably correct, but long.
Also Combining Electrical Engineering with Computer Science
Combining Electronics with Informatics .. electronics is too much narrow

Not easy, but at least we know what we want to express.

Thanks
Pavel

Díky moc za odpověď. Jde vidět, že to skutečně za oko zatahalo i někoho jiného. Já v těchto "awkward" situacích spíše vyměknu a kombinuji třebas "electrical engineering and computer science". Mám docela hrůzu z různých čengliš výrazů.
